PAID PARENTAL LEAVE POLICY EXTENSION (STAFF)

Oct. 30, 2023

Thank you for your questions and comments about the policy change from 12 weeks of paid parental leave to six weeks of paid family leave effective Jan. 1, 2024. We have heard you and listened to your concerns regarding this policy change. We recognize that some of you have made life decisions based on the current paid parental leave policy. As a result, we are taking the following action:

For those expecting a child before Sept. 1, 2024 who submit timely paperwork in calendar year 2023, we will honor the current paid parental leave policy. In order to meet the policy extension criteria, you must provide all necessary paperwork to Sedgwick (our Leave of Absence third-party administrator) no later than Dec. 31, 2023. If you do not take action by Dec. 31, 2023, the new paid family leave policy will apply.

Effective Jan. 1, 2024, as we transition from paid parental leave to paid family leave, please remember that for the birth of a baby, short-term disability is available for either six or eight weeks (depending on type of birth) after a seven-day waiting period; then paid family leave is available for another six weeks.

Our Total Rewards package recognizes we have five generations of employees, and we want to ensure that our benefit offerings can be used by all when they need it. By offering paid family leave to employees, this policy covers all generations. The paid family leave policy provides six weeks of paid leave to care for aging parents, birth/adoption of a child and other caregiving needs.

We hope this parental leave policy extension addresses your concerns and know that we are living our OU Health Way values by taking action.
