  • Your legal spouse.
  • Your dependent children up to age 26.
  • Your dependent children of any age who are disabled and meet plan criteria.
What You Need to Know

Your benefits should work for you at every stage of life. We’ve designed our enrollment process to be flexible and responsive to your needs.

New Employees:

  • Full-time employees who work at least 30 hours per week.
  • Part-time employees who work at least 16 hours per week (.4 FTE).
  • PRN employees who are individually notified of the opportunity to enroll in medical insurance, as applicable by
    the Affordable Care Act.

Current Employees:

  • Once a year during Open Enrollment, you have the opportunity to review, update and adjust your benefit elections for the upcoming year.
  • Mid-Year Changes are available for select benefits if you experience a qualified life event (as defined by the Internal Revenue Service).

Making Changes During the Year:

Life changes — and your benefits can change with you. You may make certain benefit changes during the year if you experience a qualified life event, including:

  • Marriage or divorce.
  • Birth, adoption or change in custody of your child.
  • Death of your spouse or dependent child.
  • Change in your or your spouse’s employment status resulting in a loss or gain of coverage, including your spouse’s open enrollment period.
  • Change in your dependent’s eligibility status.

IF YOU OR YOUR CHILD IS TURNING 26 IN 2026:

Dependents may stay on their parents’ medical insurance until they turn 26-years-old.

  • If you’re currently covered by your parents’ health coverage and will turn 26 during the plan year, you have 30 days from your 26th birthday to enroll in OU Health’s insurance coverage. If you do not enroll during this 30-day window, you will need to wait until the next open enrollment period to obtain coverage.
  • If your child is turning 26: Your dependent child will automatically lose coverage at the end of the month in which they turn 26. We encourage you to help them understand their options and enrollment timeline, so they can transition to their own coverage without a gap.
